How it works

Build Klaviyo campaigns from a CSV

Campn turns a Klaviyo email template into a spreadsheet you can fill in, then turns that spreadsheet back into ready-to-review Klaviyo campaigns — up to five at once. Here’s the whole workflow.

  • Your Klaviyo template as a spreadsheet — text and images already in place
  • Create up to five campaigns at once — one per row
  • Drop in a batch of images; filenames route them to the right slots
  • Edit any text or image, revert to the original in one click
  • One-click Copy Desktop → Mobile fills both versions in one step
  • Set subject line, preview text, and audience from your Klaviyo lists and segments
  • Everything saves as an unsent draft

Select a Klaviyo email template

Choose a Drag & Drop template from your Klaviyo library

On “Create Campaigns,” find the drag-and-drop template you want to build new emails from and choose “Build from this template.” Only templates built with Klaviyo’s drag-and-drop editor work here — classic/code-your-own templates aren’t supported.

Prepare your campaign

The Prepare Campaigns grid

The Build page opens on “Prepare Campaigns” — an online spreadsheet with up to five rows (one per campaign you want to create) and one column for every image in the template. Name a row and it’s ready to go into your download.

How automatic image mapping works

To streamline bulk uploads, Campn maps your campaign images to spreadsheet columns using file naming rules. Drag a batch of image files onto a row and Campn places each one automatically:

  1. 1. Column headers. Every image column is already named after its slot in the template (e.g. hero, logo, card_1). You can rename any column to something easier to remember.
  2. 2. Name your files to match. Save your replacement image using the same base name as the column it belongs in — capitalization, spacing, and file format don’t matter.
  3. 3. Automatic placement. Drop the files onto a row and Campn scans them and places each one in the matching column automatically. Anything left over fills the row’s remaining empty columns.

Naming example — spreadsheet column: hero. Matching filenames: hero.jpg, Hero_1_1.png, or hero.jpeg — same name, any capitalization or image format. Campn assigns the image to the hero slot for that row without any manual placement.

Drag to rearrange

Didn’t land where you expected? You can also drag and rearrange images within a campaign row to move one to a different slot, or aside to leave that slot untouched.

After this prep, you have two options:

Download CSV & Images — get a zip with a spreadsheet (one column per editable piece of the template — headlines, body text, button labels, images) and every image you assigned, pre-filled with what you built above. Make all your changes locally: retype text in the spreadsheet, or swap an image by typing its exact filename into that cell. Then come back and upload your folder with the updated CSV and images for the campaigns.

Proceed to Review — skip the download entirely and go straight to Review with whatever you’ve built in the grid so far.

Review

Whichever path you took, you land on Review & edit with every row laid out as its own tab — nothing has been created in Klaviyo yet.

Audience (required)

Pick at least one Klaviyo list or segment for each row — this is the one thing you choose here rather than in the spreadsheet, since it’s a multi-select. A row can’t be built until it has an audience.

Campaign name, subject line, and preview text

Campaign name is the internal name Klaviyo shows in your message list; subject line and preview text are what recipients see in their inbox. Leave subject or preview blank to finish them later inside Klaviyo.

Text and Images tabs

Every text field and image on the template shows up here, grouped the same way it’s organized in the template itself. Edit any field directly — a “Revert” link on a changed field brings back the template’s original value. A field with a problem, like an image filename that didn’t match anything you uploaded, shows a warning on its card. It doesn’t block the build — the template’s original image is kept unless you pick another one.

Confirm & Build

Click “Confirm & Build” on a row to create its Klaviyo campaign — a copy of your original template with that row’s content written in. Only one row builds at a time, but you’re free to switch tabs and keep reviewing another row while it works. The moment a row finishes, its tab shows the result — a link to the new campaign in Klaviyo, or what went wrong if it failed — without affecting any other row.

Finish up in Klaviyo

Every campaign Campn creates is left as an unsent draft. Each built row links straight to it in Klaviyo — open it there to double-check it, set your sender details, and schedule or send it. Campn never sends a campaign for you.

The CSV format

The download is a standard CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. When saving from Excel, choose “CSV UTF-8” so curly quotes, dashes and accented letters come through intact. Upload it in a folder together with the images it names (images in subfolders are ignored).

Row 1 holds the column names. Row 2 is reserved for image labels and is never read as a campaign. Every row after that is one new campaign, up to five per upload. The columns, in order:

original_templateoriginal_template_id
The template you're building from. Filled in for you; leave them as they are.
new_campaign_name
The campaign's name in Klaviyo. Left blank, it's named after the template and row number.
subjectpreview_text
The subject line and preview text recipients see. Left blank, you set them in Klaviyo.
text1text2
Each piece of text in the template, in the order it appears. A text block with differently styled parts gets one column per part.
image1image2
The filename of an image in your upload folder: JPG, PNG or GIF, up to 5MB. Capitalization doesn't matter.
image1_alt
That image's alt text. Section background images have no alt text column.

A blank cell leaves that part of the template exactly as it is, so you only fill in what changes. The audience isn’t in the CSV: you pick lists and segments for each campaign on the Review step.

Desktop and mobile versions

Some templates show different content on a phone than on a desktop — a shorter headline, a taller image. In Klaviyo that’s built as two copies of the same section: one set to show on desktop, the other on mobile.

On every plan, including Free, Campn recognises those two copies as a matched pair. Rather than appearing as two unrelated sets of fields, they’re shown together under one heading on Review & edit, with a Copy Desktop → Mobile button at the top of the row. Write your wording once on the desktop side, click it, and the mobile side is filled in to match — text and images both come across. You can still edit either side afterwards.

Building a template for this in Klaviyo

  1. 1. Build the section once, the way you want it to look on desktop.
  2. 2. Use Klaviyo’s Duplicate section button to make an exact copy of it.
  3. 3. Leave the copy sitting directly below the original — DO NOT move another section in between the two.
  4. 4. In each one’s display settings, set the original to show on desktop only and the copy to mobile only.
  5. 5. Change the wording and pictures on either side however you like — just don’t add or delete a text box, button, or image on only one of the two.

What stops a pair being recognised

  • All the desktop sections first, then all the mobile ones. Each mobile copy has to sit immediately next to its own desktop original, so alternate them: desktop, its mobile copy, the next desktop, its mobile copy.
  • One side having an extra piece. A button on the mobile version that isn’t on the desktop version, or a picture on desktop that mobile doesn’t have, is enough to break the match. Both need the same pieces in the same order — only the words and images inside them should differ.
  • A section set to show on both. Each half needs its own desktop-only or mobile-only setting applied.

None of this is mandatory. If Campn can’t match a pair, those fields simply appear separately, marked Desktop only and Mobile only — everything still builds normally, you just fill both in by hand.

After changing a template in Klaviyo, just open it again from Create Campaigns — Campn picks up the new layout on its own and tells you when it has. If you’d already downloaded a CSV for that template, download a fresh one and start from that, since the old one no longer matches.

Disconnecting

You can disconnect Campn from your Klaviyo account at any time from the “Disconnect” button on Settings → Integrations. This removes the app’s access and deletes the template information and build history it had stored for that Klaviyo account. The count of campaigns you’ve built stays, so disconnecting doesn’t reset your plan’s allowance. Campaigns it already created stay in Klaviyo.
